HOW DOES SCHOOL SELECTION WORK?
1. REGIONS
Victoria is divided into Somers school networks.
2. ALLOCATED
Each network is allocated a camp in a two-year rotation.
3. OPPORTUNITY
Schools within that network are offered the opportunity to attend.
4. SCHOOL DECISION
Schools decide whether to participate and which students are offered places.
PARENTS’ FAQS
Is my child auutomatically gaurenteed a place if their school is listed? No. Being listed means your school is part of a region that has been allocated the opportunity to attend Somers School Camp. Places are limited, with 160 students attending each camp, so being from an eligible school does not automatically guarantee your child a place.
How long is Somers School Camp? The Somers program runs for 9 days, giving students the opportunity to live, learn and participate in a wide range of outdoor, personal-development and community activities.
Who can attend Somers School Camp? Somers School Camp’s nine-day residential program is designed for any Year 5 and Year 6 students attending Victorian Government primary schools. Schools from across Victoria participate through their allocated regional network.
Who decides whether my school attends? Your child’s school makes the decision about participating in the Somers School Camp program and which students are offered places. If your school is listed and you’re interested in your child attending, we encourage you to speak with your Principal or school leadership team.
How many students attend? Each Somers School Camp program brings together 160 students from schools within the allocated region.
